Shibori Sessions

This past week I have been working on a few commissioned projects – one of which is a series of Shibori dyed fabrics. Shibori dates back to between the 6th and 8th centuries and is a Japanese resist dye technique where pattern is created through blocking certain areas of the fabric from exposure to the dye bath. The three Shibori techniques I used are called Itajime, Ne-maki, and Tesuji. Ne-maki and Tesuji are the techniques shown in the photos above. The fabric is 100% linen and the yardage will ultimately be used for apparel. Below are images of the fabric bound prior to dying.
