Designing and Sewing Menus For Miss Elisabeth

A most talented friend of mine, Miss Elisabeth is a chef and caterer here in New York City. A few months ago she moved into a commercial kitchen where she has a separate dining area she uses for hosting “underground dinner parties.” She can accommodate private dinners for up to 14 people and she will create an incredibly elaborate however-many-course meal to your specifications. Fantastic idea – particularly for us New Yorkers living in tiny apartments without the space for hosting large dinner parties!

When Liz moved into her kitchen I spent some time with her to help conceptualize and decorate the dining area. Occasionally for the particularly fancy dinners she asks me to make custom menus – a special hand-sewn menu that can be taken away and kept as a memory of the evening and of Miss Elisabeth’s amazing food. Sort of a nice idea I think! It’s all in the little details.
